Managing the warehouse with Kaos software and RTLS technology – La Bora S.p.a.

Bora Italy, a leading company in the stamping of metal components for the automotive and household appliance sectors, relied on our Kaos software to solve inefficiencies in the logistics area and also in warehouse management.

CRITICAL ISSUES IN WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT

  • Presence of non-visible areas and narrow lanes;
  • Predefined and fixed handling units characterized by metal crates, gabions, and pallets;
  • Arrangement of finished product in both shelving and floor stacks;
  • Direct intervention of the forklift driver in arranging goods;
  • High error rate in loading, unloading and deliveries
  • Absence of an unambiguous method for the forklift driver to figure out which package to pick up within the warehouse;
  • Variable inventory movement flow at different times of the year.

GOAL

In order to achieve the goal set together with the Bora enterprise, it was necessary to reorganize and optimize warehouse activities.

Specifically, one of the first needs was to minimize the risk of wasted time and money due to errors when picking, loading or unloading goods for processing or delivery. In addition, the need for more control over the placement of goods, thus facilitating forklift movements, then emerged.

Thus, to meet this need it was necessary to reorganize and optimize the warehouse and the activities within it, acting on:

  • location of goods
  • Identification and tracking of goods in non-shelving and non-visible areas
  • Calculating the height of the forklift forks to precisely locate the goods.

LOGISTICS SOLUTION

After a focused consultation, the Bora company chose the Kaos by Digimark software, for the management of logistics and warehouse movements. Unlike other management systems on the market, Kaos ensures: total customization of the system according to the needs and structure of the company’s warehouse, a high level of innovation, continuous support and the experience of the Digimark team.

KAOS WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FEATURES FOR BORA

After identifying objectives and critical issues, we fully customized the Kaos warehouse management program. As a first step, Kaos was integrated with the company’s ERP management system and another warehouse loading and unloading program already in place within the company.

In addition, Kaos, based on innovative UWB technology, enables:

  • Achieve a high level of accuracy when placing and picking goods;
  • Develop a notification system that connects the production area with the warehouse;
  • Build a system for monitoring forklift movements or its orientation

KAOS WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STRUCTURE

Digimark’s Kaos software, specifically, consists of several elements:

  • Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, sends and receives signals in a very short time, covering heterogeneous surfaces;
  • Tags, placed on the handling equipment;
  • Anchors, installed on the carts and forklifts, interface with the signals emitted by the tags and the server;
  • Barcode reader, tablet and part presence sensor placed on forklifts and forklift trucks.

Software is the heart of the management system, divided into:

  1. Server: manages the flow of information to and from the tablets; saves the data and allows consultation through an interface. It also provides suggestions to the forklift driver on the placement of goods.
  2. Tablets: connected to the company’s Wi-Fi network constantly communicate with the server.
